Rotary club of Christchurch Sunrise has always been involved in planting and improving the environment. From Westmorland East valley, Otukaikino Stream, Otakaro Orchard, Quail Island, Roimata food commons, Papanui Bush and Darlington loop
Since 2010 we have supported Quail Island Ecological Restoration Trust planting days both financially and on planting and maintenance days. (see our logo on their website)
The club sponsored a penguin box in 2014.
In 2105 club exchange student Francisco visited and helped on the island

Club 30th anniversary Totara's
When the Christchurch City Council wouldn’t allow our 30th anniversary Totara’s to be planted in a local park or Rotary Lawn Botanic Gardens, Quail Island stepped up agree and 3 were planted in 2019, one is now well over head height.
Location is 1 hours walk clockwise from the jetty, It is close to the gully above the walking track before the ships graveyard
